Top 10 Moments of 2014: Kevin Molino Becomes First MLS Signing
As we count down to the new year of 2015-Orlando City SC's first in MLS, and say goodbye to 2014, it's time to look back at the club's 10 best moments of the year.
Kevin Molino has already featured heavily on our list of top 10 moments of 2014, and considering the year he had for the Lions last USL Pro campaign, it is no surprise.
On Jan. 9, 2014, the Trinidad and Tobago International was honored as the club's first-ever MLS signing.Molino has been a standout for the Lions over the past few years and couldn't be a more deserving recipient of such a monumental moment for the club.
"Kevin was out of contract with us and was being courted heavily in Europe and the States," Orlando City head coach Adrian Heath said in a statement. "He's turned down deals from several MLS teams to stay with us in Orlando. That says a lot about his love for this club. He will be a great asset for us again in '14 and moving forward into MLS."
With his spot on Orlando's 2015 roster guaranteed, the attacker flourished, scoring a league record 20 goals and led the 2014 USL Pro season with nine assists.
Molino will likely line up beside high profile midfielders Brek Shea and Kaka next year, forming one of the most dangerous midfield units in all of Major League Soccer. While Orlando supporters know just how good the Soca Warrior is, he will be considered an unknown compared to his midfield partners.
This should provide him with freedom early on in the season to do what he does best: dominate.
A few achievements to justify Kevin Molino as Orlando City's first MLS signing:
- Two-time USL Pro MVP (2012, 2014)
- USL Pro Team of the Season (2014)
- USL Pro single-season goal scoring record (20)
- Two USL Pro Cups (2011, 2013)
- Three Commissioner's Cups (2011, 2012, 2014)
- Joint Top Goalscorer Caribbean Cup (2014)
