Louisville City Update: Charlie Adams Signs, Friendlies Canceled

Depending on your personal level of optimism, either the beginning of Orlando City SC’s inaugural season or the first work stoppage in MLS history grows ever nearer with each passing day. Down the pyramid a couple of levels, Orlando City’s USL affiliate has been staying busy in preparation for its own inaugural season.

Charlie Adams is Newest Signing

Louisville City FC announced the signing of midfielder Charlie Adams today. Adams, 20, last played with Brentford FC of League One, the third division of the English Football League System. Brentford has since been promoted to the Championship.

"Charlie is an extremely talented footballer," Louisville City Head Coach James O'Connor said, via press release. "He has a strong left foot and his delivery on set pieces will make him immensely valuable to us this upcoming season."

The 5-foot-7 Adams never quite broke into the first team at Griffin Park and was sent out on loan to lower division sides Barnet and Stevenage. He will travel to the U.S. this week and is expected to be available for the March 8 friendly against the University of Louisville.

Adams becomes the 13th Louisville signing, and is the club's sixth midfielder.

First Two Friendlies Canceled, Indy 11 Announce Match

They will be playing soccer at some point, just not yet.

That was the message form Louisville City FC this week, as the club's first two preseason matches were cancelled due to snow accumulation on the fields that were planned to be used.

The matches, against the University of Evansville on Wednesday and Young Harris College on Saturday, would have been the first two matches in club history. However, last week's winter storms have left much of the Louisville area covered with snow and ice, leading Louisville City to hold it's first two weeks of practice at two different indoor facilities in the area.

The next scheduled match comes on March 3 against NCAA powerhouse Indiana University at Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, IN. The match will be played at 3 pm.

Also, as The Mane Land reported last week, Indy 11 of the NASL announced their preseason slate on Friday, which includes a match against Louisville City FC on March 21.

Djorn Has Landed

Former Louisville City FC President Djorn Buchholz has returned to an old home. The Austin Aztex of the USL Western Conference have hired Buchholz as Chief Commercial Officer, per his twitter account.

Formerly a member of Sporting Kansas City’s front office, as well as the head of the NASL’s Minnesota United, Buchholz returns to a soccer market he has been a part of in the past. He was CEO of the old Austin Aztex franchise before its move to Orlando to become the USL PRO edition of the Lions.

Media Day

Louisville City FC will hold its first ever Media Day on Monday afternoon and The Mane Land will be represented. Have a question you want me to ask? Leave it in the comments section or let me know on twitter (@j_milbz).
