Transfer Rumor: Family of Luis Fabiano Indicating Move to Join Kaká at Orlando City

According to a report from ESPN Brazil, the family of São Paulo striker Luis Fabiano has been hinting at a move to join former teammate and Brazilian compatriot Kaká in Major League Soccer at Orlando City.

The 34-year-old forward still has seven months remaining on his current contract with SPFC, but according to the report, a rift has developed between Fabiano and the Brazilian club, which has not expressed a desire to keep him on beyond the duration of his current deal.

The 6-foot striker has registered a pair of goals for São Paulo this season, after scoring 15 goals to go along with three assists over the last two campaigns since rejoining the club, following a stint at Sevilla. In two seasons in Spain with Sevilla, Fabiano netted 25 goals and dished out four assists in 34 appearances for the La Liga side.

Kaká, who has starred for Orlando in the midfield creator role so far in the 2015 campaign, got his start at São Paulo back in 2001, prior to his move to Europe. Before joining up with OCSC for preseason training in December, Kaká made 25 appearances for SPFC during a five-month loan spell with the club, scoring three goals in the process.

Thanks in part to the efforts of Kaká and Fabiano, São Paulo secured a second-place finish in the Brasiliero and secured a berth in the 2015 Copa Liberdatores.

Orlando’s scoring woes in the early season are already well documented, with Pedro Ribeiro looking at an extended leave of absence following a hamstring injury while Martin Paterson struggles to regain fitness following a leg injury of his own. In the absence of those two, rookie Cyle Larin will be expected to shoulder to starting duties up top for the Lions.

This rumor might actually have some legs. Does this move make sense for City? Sure. Fabiano already knows how to play with Kaká and the Lions could use a veteran striker. From a cost perspective, this would make much more sense than the Chicharito rumor. However, this wouldn’t help in the immediate future unless a loan deal could be reached. The report also says that Orlando City denies that an agreement has been made, which doesn’t necessarily rule out a move. We’ll have to wait and see on this one.
