Who is Orlando City’s Newest Trialist, Josef Shirdel?

Orlando City's "mystery trialist" has been revealed as German winger Josef Shirdel, a young player with some European experience. Shirdel may not be a household name, by any means, but this right winger could be what Orlando needs in the wake of Kevin Molino's season-ending injury.

Shirdel has spent the last two years with the German side Hamburg, in their lower division team, Hamburg II. The winger played 26 games in 2013/14 and scored seven goals in the process.

We were able to find this six minute video of his play, and from the looks of it, he appears fairly skilled.

Keep your eye on number seven on the near side. While not the fastest player on the field, he has some decent pace as well as some good ball control. It also looks like he can put a good ball into the box from the wing, which would be a great asset for the Lions.

According to reports, Shirdel was on trial with English Premier League club West Ham United and the team came close to signing him, but ultimately did not. After that, Shirdel secured a trial with Scottish Championship side Rangers FC in April, but the German wasn't able to impress enough to secure a deal.

Now Shirdel comes to Orlando and will be evaluated throughout the next week. With options limited due to the transfer window closing, could Josef Shirdel be Orlando's short term answers to their hole at the right wing?

Our SB Nation colleagues who cover the Bundesliga tell us that Hamburg II is in Germany's fourth division, a league not known for a surplus of talent. The fact that Shirdel did not impress at a Scottish Championship side is kind of telling, but with the transfer window closed, options for free transfers are limited. But even if he can only help by providing Adrian Heath with a right wing option off the bench, he could be worth taking a look at.
