The Mane Land MLS Power Rankings: Week 13

After a few weeks of craziness in the league, MLS decided to settle down a bit. Good. Perhaps the Don Garber Parity Gremlins took the week off.

1. Seattle Sounders (Last Week: 1)

Seattle continues to be the most entertaining team in MLS to watch, and they just keep on trucking along with important W's, including this week's win over East contenders New York Red Bulls. The only caveat? The defending on the winning goal was, shall we say, unsavory.

2. D.C. United (Last Week: 5)

I may be the only one around that doesn't think D.C. doesn't really have a shot at MLS Cup this year. Well, I may not be the only one…

The official attendance at RFK this week was 16,284, but all those empty seats make me think that number might be more inflated than Cristiano Ronaldo's ego. Come on D.C.! You've got the best team in the East and the lower bowl isn't full. If there'a team that needs a new stadium more than D.C., I don't want to meet it.

3. Sporting Kansas City (Last Week: 10)

What a difference two weeks makes. In the last two weeks SKC has pummeled two of the best teams in the league. After dropping four goals on Dallas this week, without Dom Dwyer in the lineup mind you, I don’t want any part of the Wiz right now. They move up accordingly.

4. New England Revolution (Last Week: 4)

5. FC Dallas (Last Week: 2)

Someone somewhere (I don't remember who, or else I would give the credit) tweeted out something like, "Welcome to FC Dallas in summer" during Dallas' loss to Montreal last week. If that game was the fall, their 4-0 drubbing at the hands of SKC was the ensuing crash.

6. Columbus Crew (Last Week: 6)

7. LA Galaxy (Last Week: 7)

8. Vancouver Whitecaps (Last Week: 12)

9. New York Red Bulls (Last Week: 3)

New York has absolutely hit a wall. Just as I was beginning to think that Jesse Marsch was a legit Coach of the Year candidate, NYRB has gone 1-3-3 over their last seven with the lone win coming over their woe-be-gotten Hudson River rivals. Welcome to MLS, where you have to ride the wave when it’s there and swim when it isn’t.

10. Toronto FC (Last Week: 13)

Toronto has all the potential in the world and none of the consistency, but that may be changing. They've won two in a row for the second time this season, but without Jozy Altidore in the lineup. Also, as if I haven't espoused my love for him enough already, Giovinco is the closest thing MLS has ever had to a one-man wrecking crew.

11. San Jose Earthquakes (Last Week: 8)

12. Houston Dynamo (Last Week: 9)

If you were going to watch a Houston game for one player, it would have to be Tyler Deric. The guy is quickly becoming the goalkeeping version of Dominique Wilkins with highlight saves seemingly every week. As I’ve said before, no wonder Houston was willing to cut ties with a keeper the quality of Tally Hall.

I snickered a little as I typed this out.
