Pride Pub: Your Grub and Grog Selections for Orlando City vs. FC Dallas

on

This coming Saturday, the boys from Big D are coming to the Citrus Bowl, and I don’t mean Romo and the Cowboys. FC Dallas will be in town, and the Pride Pub has some excellent selections to slake your thirst and sate your appetite. As you’re hopefully becoming aware, the idea is to select a craft beer from the city/state of our opponent and one from the great State of Florida to represent Orlando City. Once we do that, we suggest some vittles to compliment your choices. Enjoy!

From Texas: Shiner Bock, Spoetzl Brewery

FC Dallas comes in sitting middle of the pack in the Western Conference. Shiner Bock, on the other hand, is no slouch of a beer. Hopefully FC Dallas will go down as easy as this pleasantly balanced dark lager. Shiner Bock is brewed appropriately enough in Shiner, TX. And they’ve been brewing beer since 1909 in that same little town. Fortunately, it’s available most everywhere now.

From the Brewery:

“Tip back a bock. Brewed with rich roasted barley malt and German specialty hops, this lightly hopped American-style dark lager always goes down easy. Originally a seasonal beer, fans have demanded it year round since 1973.”

Pair with: Jerk Chicken

Dave’s recommendation: Enjoy the mild but delicious Bock (American-Style Dark Lager, truly) and the spicy kick of the flavorful Jerk Chicken with some beans and rice to round out your meal.

From Florida: Mutha Fuggle, Tomoka Brewing Co.

How could I not choose this beer? The name alone is reason enough. Fortunately, this English Pale Ale (bordering on what the English actually call a Bitter), is quite tasty, and available in Port Orange, FL. The Tomoka Brewing Company is a brewpub, but don’t worry you can take it with you in a container called a Growler! Growlers are refillable containers for craft beer. I’m the proud owner of an official Tomoka Brewing Company logo’d growler myself. So take a short trip to Port Orange, pick up a growler or two of this beer, and maybe even have lunch or dinner while you’re there.

From the Brewery:

This English Pale ale is a malt-forward, easy drinking ale with nice strong bittering and citrusy Hop Aroma. Brewed with British malts, hops and yeast for an old world taste with a new world twist!”

Pair with: English Style Fish and Chips

Dave’s recommendation: If you’re going to have a traditional English Bitter, have the traditional English Fish and Chips. And don’t forget to pick up a bottle of malt vinegar to use liberally. If you’re really ambitious, wrap it up in a newspaper the way they do over there.

As always, Happy tailgating! Go City! Beat FC Dallas!
