Lion Links
Lion Links: 7/8/15
We’re midway through the week, Mane Landers. Wednesdays allow us to get the first real glimpse of the finish line that is the weekend. Soon, we’ll all be at the Citrus Bowl watching Orlando City take on FC Dallas.
But until then, finish out the work week and check out today's Lion Links.
Hall Nominated For MLS Save of the Week
As we talked about last week, Tally Hall has had a great season for the Lions this year. Saturday night’s game against Real Salt Lake was a continuation of the great play we’ve come to expect from the goalkeeper, as Hall allowed one goal and had six saves in Orlando’s 1-1 draw against RSL. One of those saves, against a shot from Olmes Garcia, is up for MLS’ Save of the Week. Hall is alongside Vancouver’s David Ousted, Columbus’ Steve Clark, the Red Bulls’ Luis Robles and NYCFC’s Josh Saunders, as Week 18 nominees. Support Tally Wall and vote.
USMNT Defeats Honduras 2-1 In Gold Cup Opener
The United States Men’s National Team defeated Honduras 2-1 to open up the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Clint Dempsey scored twice on headers in the 25th and 64th minutes. Honduras would fight back, however, as Carlos Discua scored in the 69th minute. The U.S. takes on Haiti Friday at Foxboro’s Gillette Stadium. SB Nation’s Kevin McCauley has three things we learned from the USMNT win here.
Lauren Holiday Retires From the USWNT
Olympic gold medals from the 2008 and 2012 games. A 2014 U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year Award. A 2015 Women’s World Cup.
Lauren Holiday has had a decorated career with the United States Women’s National Team.
A career that is now over.
Holiday confirmed to Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl that she is retiring after a 10-year international career. It is unclear if Holiday, who joined the national team in 2007, will join the team for a 10-match series of friendlies throughout the United States starting in August. While the midfielder will leave the national team, she still will play for the National Women’s Soccer League’s FC Kansas City.
The MLS Guide On How To Follow the NWSL
Speaking of the NWSL, the MLS’ website has a guide for those interested in following and watching the league, which contains many USWNT members. Coming off a successful Women’s World Cup broadcast, FOX announced the network will air six regular season games and three playoff games on FOX Sports 1. They will also air four games on the FOX Sports Go streaming service.
Adu Leaves Kuopion Palloseura
Freddy Adu is on the move once again. After spending three months with Kuopion Palloseura of Finland’s Veikkausliiga, the midfielder has decided to leave the team. This is Adu’s eighth team in seven years and the 11th overall. Adu started three times in five games with Kuopion Palloseura, going scoreless in all games.

That'll do it for me. I'm out of here. Enjoy your Hump Day, Lion Nation!
