Where Are They Now? Old Orlando City Players With New Teams, Part 4 (Finale)

After reviewing the last few years of Orlando City’s existence, it’s time to wrap up the series by looking all the way back to the inaugural season for the Lions.

2011 was a major year for the club. In its first season, the Lions won both the regular season and post season championships. The final game, held in the Citrus Bowl, was nationally broadcast and entertained over 10,000 fans in attendance. This was when soccer fever began to overtake Orlando.

We've discussed all of the long-tenured Lions players over the past few articles, so in this one, we'll only be discussing the players that left after the first year.

Demar Stewart joined the Lions after signing a two-year contract in February of 2011. Brought on due to his "wealth of experience," from playing on the Jamaican national team, Stewart went on to make 15 appearances for the club, while scoring two goals. However, after the season ended, Stewart was not brought back to the club, despite still having one more year left on his contract. Since he left Orlando, he has not played with any team and has most likely retired.

Jack Traynor was a big collegiate player at Notre Dame and was drafted 29th overall in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by the New York Red Bulls, but was never offered a contract. After playing with Miami FC and AC St. Louis, Traynor signed with Orlando in March of 2011. The defender went on to make 17 appearances for the Lions, and did not score a goal.

After the season ended, Traynor moved up north to New York to sign with the Rochester Rhinos for the 2012 season, where he made 14 appearances for the club. After that season, Traynor decided to hang up the boots for good and retired at the age of 25.

Justin Fojo was a Trinidadian international who came to Orlando after graduating from the College Of Charleston in 2010. The midfielder played only four games in a Lions uniform in 2011 and left the team to join the the Puerto Rico Islanders of the NASL in 2012. Fojo played in 23 games with the Islanders and scored one goal. Since then, he retired from professional soccer and is now working at Florida Hospital in Orlando.

One of the more memorable players from the inaugural season was Lawrence Olum. Coming over to Orlando with the Austin Aztex, Olum played 21 games with the Lions and scored only one goal. His goal came in the 89th minute of the championship game and looked to be the game winner, before the Harrisburg City Islanders tied the game and sent it to extra time.

After the season, the Kenyan national was signed by Sporting Kansas City after a trial period in the off-season. Olum has gone on to have a very successful run with SKC, having played in almost 70 games over the past three years, and had many opportunities in the starting 11 last year. After the 2014 season, Olum and SKC mutually parted ways and the former Lion headed over to the Malaysian League to play with Kedah FC. After only making six appearances for the club, they decided to release Olum back in April. Since then, he has not signed with a club.

Devorn Jorsling, who is another Trinidadian national, spent eight years in the Trinidadian Pro League before coming to Orlando City in 2011. Jorsling played in 16 games for the Lions and is most remembered for scoring the game-winning penalty in the 2011 USL championship game. Since then, Jorsling has returned to Trinidad, where he now plays for Defense Force, the club he played for and scored 74 goals for before joining Orlando. Jorsling is also the all-time leading scorer for the Trinidadian National Team. He was slated to join the “Soca Warriors” for this year’s Gold Cup, but was snubbed from the roster. As a result, the 31-year-old retired from international soccer.
