Louisville City Beats Pittsburgh, Extends Winning Streak to Four Games

It is a story line that is becoming quite familiar to Louisville City fans this season: Rasmussen and Fondy score, Burke and Dacres terrorize the right side, and Louisville City wins.

The Royals continue to patch the quilt of this season together, and they added another stitch with their 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday at Highmark Stadium. It was only the second loss Pittsburgh has had at home this season, as well as the second victory Louisville has had away from home, and it came due to the work of some familiar star Louisville players.

Louisville opened the scoring when Rasmussen's free kick sneaked around the Pittsburgh wall in the 15th minute to beat Riverhounds goalkeeper Calle Brown. It was Rasmussen's seventh goal of the season, which is good for second on the team.

After allowing the Pittsburgh equalizer on a set piece in the 20th minute, which is the second time Pittsburgh has scored against Louisville from a dead-ball situation, Louisville retook the lead for good in the 65th. The only man who has tallied more goals for Louisville than Rasmussen — Matt Fondy — found the back of the net with a first-time, left-footed shot on a Bryan Burke cross that was the result of a trademark combination play from Kadeem Dacres and Burke. It was Fondy's 11th goal of the season and he remains in third place in the USL goal race.

"Matt was excellent," Louisville Head Coach James O'Connor said. "If you look at the space he created, the space he ran into, his work rate, his finish… He lead the line brilliantly."

Louisville City will next take the field on field on Saturday in Wilmington, N.C., against the Hammerheads in a rematch of a 3-0 Louisville victory on May 12. The 7 p.m. kickoff will mark the second game of a three-game road trip.

Kevin Cossette Signs

Louisville City signed Canadian midfielder Kevin Cossette last week, the club announced today via the official team site. Cossette joins Louisville City after having played professionally in the Canadian Soccer League as well as with the old NASL edition of the Montreal Impact. Between his first professional stop and Louisville, Cossette played at Laval University, which is a Canadian university located in Montreal. Unlike with major American NCAA universities, he did not forfeit collegiate eligibility to play for the Rouge et Or by playing professionally.

"We are delighted to have Kevin here with us in Louisville," O'Connor said via the team release. "He will bring flexibility to our left side as he can operate at left back or left midfield. His pace will also cause teams problems."

Cossette figures to add depth to a Louisville City bench which had been thin at times earlier this season. In terms of position, as O'Connor mentioned, Cossette can be used as a midfielder but will likely be listed in the depth chart as a backup left back, which is where he played at Laval, to help shore up a weak spot behind Enrique Montano while Adam West continues to recover from injury.

Cossette went as an unused substitute in Louisville's 2-1 win over Pittsburgh.
