Orlando City Defender Conor Donovan Loaned to USL’s Pittsburgh Riverhounds

Orlando City rookie central defender Conor Donovan has been loaned to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL.

The move comes two days after Orlando City coach Adrian Heath said the team was hoping to get some of its young players loaned out so they could get some playing time.

Donovan was in the starting XI for the Riverhounds Sunday against the Harrisburg City Islanders, after the paperwork for the loan went through just hours before kickoff, according to the Riverhounds Twitter account.

Donovan, 19, was a member of the U.S. U-20 team at the recent FIFA U-20 World Cup, and has 39 international appearances at the U-17 and U-20 levels. But the defender had yet to see the field in league play, despite a thin roster for the Lions in recent weeks. He did make an appearance in a U.S. Open Cup match with OCSC, and logged minutes in both of the team’s international friendlies, though.

Along with Donovan, Heath said earlier this week that the team hopes to get defender Tommy Redding and recently-returned forward Sidney Rivera out on loans as well.
