Shea in the Spotlight

With Orlando City maintaining its push for the playoffs after a 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact, one player who can certainly take all the credit is Brek Shea. Since his return from injury, Orlando City has gone 4-0 and amassed 12 glorious points. The reason: Brek Shea can play any position. It showed again on Saturday night when he was asked to switch sides to play right back after the injuries to Tommy Redding & Rafael Ramos, and despite playing in a position he had never played before he did well enough to make the MLS Team of the Week.

Hines the Hero

With last week’s game winner, Seb Hines became a folklore hero in the eyes of Orlando City supporters and his goal also managed to garner a nomination for MLS Goal of the Week:

With how important this goal was to Orlando City and the fact that it was just a snap reaction by Hines, who only dislocated his shoulder last week, the nod comes as no surprise. So remember to vote early and often. Hines also received a nod in the ESPN FC Team of the Week.

Kaká Gets Another Call from Brazil

After receiving a call-up to the Brazilian national team in September for international friendlies against Chile and the United States, Kaká has once again received the call to play for his national team as a last-minute scratch for Phillippe Coutinho opened up a spot for the upcoming FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifying matches against Chile and Venezuela. Since Orlando City doesn’t have any games over these dates, and with Kaká missing the NYCFC game anyway due to yellow card accumulation, these qualifiers may give the Lions talisman the chance to stay match fit.

With Orlando City really only awaiting official confirmation that the team with be fielding an expansion side next season in the fourth season of the National Women’s Soccer League, soccerwire.com gives us a good overview of the rumors, sentiments and feelings about the state of Orlando City’s bid to make this city proud to have a professional women’s soccer club.

Dos (a) Santos

On Saturday, the USMNT takes the field at the Rose Bowl against Mexico in the winner-takes-all CONCACAF Cup for a chance to play in 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia. The tournament is seen as a good warm up for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which is played in the same country. One player who will not be taking the field on Saturday is LA Galaxy and Mexico forward Giovani dos Santos. The center forward has been ruled out of the clash due to a muscle strain that he sustained in the LA Galaxy’s game at the Seattle Sounders at CenturyLink Field on Sunday.

Gerrard Back to Liverpool?

After saying an emotional farewell to the Kop at the end of his last home Premier League match, Steven Gerrard could be set to make a sensational return to Anfield after the firing of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers. While discussions are only in a preliminary stage, management reportedly sees Gerrard as a member of his backroom staff for Jürgen Klopp, tipped to be the next boss of Liverpool FC, in a role similar to that of Ryan Giggs at Manchester United with Louis van Gaal. However, don’t expect the move to happen before the end of the MLS season, especially with the LA Galaxy looking for another MLS Cup title.

One person who would certainly be happy about this news would be @coutinhotouch, who made a return to twitter after the firing of Brendan Rodgers.
