Goalkeeper Tally Hall Out for the Year, Will Have Surgery on Right Knee

Even though the season is almost over, the injury list continues to grow. Orlando City today announced goalkeeper Tally Hall will undergo season-ending surgery on his right knee later this week. Hall injured his right knee in a non-contact play Friday, chasing down a ball meant for New York City FC's David Villa.

Villa was flagged offside, but Hall came up limping after he sprinted off his line to stop the play. He immediately went down grabbing his knee, the same one he suffered an ACL tear last year. According to the Orlando Sentinel's Paul Tenorio, Hall did not re-tear his ACL, but the injury is still serious enough that surgery is required for the Lions net minder.

Hall's surgery will be performed by Dr. Daryl Osbahr, Chief of Sports Medicine for Orlando Health, at Orlando Health's downtown campus.

This injury means that Josh Ford, the only non-injured goalkeeper on Orlando City's roster, will get his first career MLS start. He made his first MLS appearance Friday in relief of Hall but was not tested by NYCFC. Ford has been in the league since 2011, spending three years with the Seattle Sounders before coming to Orlando. He never saw any league time while in Seattle. Interestingly, two knee injuries — one in 2012 and another in 2013 — probably kept him from making his debut sooner.

With Orlando's playoff chances pretty much over, the only concern is if the surgery will keep Hall out for an extended period of time.
