Orlando City To Face Brazilian Club Flamengo In November 15 Friendly

Orlando City is going to Brazil.

Fresh off their first full season in Major League Soccer, the Lions announced today that they'll travel to Brazil next month for a friendly match against Brazilian Série A club Flamengo on Nov. 15.

The match will take place at the historic Maracanã, the site of the FIFA World Cup final in 2014.

"Orlando City will take on one of the most storied clubs in the world, in one of the most prestigious temples of soccer in the world," said Orlando City CEO Alex Leitão in a club release. "Orlando City is the most popular MLS team in Brazil, and this will be an unforgettable match for supporters to watch. This is also an excellent opportunity to further grow the popularity of our brand overseas, as so many Brazilians travel to Orlando each and every year."

The friendly is part of Flamengo's 120th anniversary celebration, with a special ceremony planned just before kickoff.

This will be Orlando City’s first trip to Brazil — the club originally had plans for a preseason tour in Brazil prior to the 2015 MLS season, but things fell apart and the club opted to have its first MLS preseason at home in the United States — and second friendly match against a Brazilian club this season — the Lions hosted Ponte Preta, at the Citrus Bowl back in May, winning 3-2.

Orlando will travel to Brazil on November 14, one day prior to the match to train and prepare.
