Lion Links: 11/28/15

With the Black Friday deals coming to a close, and family finally heading home, I find myself struggling to wrap my head around all there is still left to do. As we attempt to recover from the events of the last few days, check out these Lions Links for a quick break from the aftermath of the holiday fiasco.

Kaka and Darwin Ceren Advance to Latino Del Año

Each year, Major League Soccer conducts a fan-voted poll to determine the Latin Player of the Year. The Award is presented to the best player born in the United States, Latin America, Spain, or Canada with Hispanic descent. Kaká and Ceren are among eight players still left in the poll. Voting for the round of eight ends Nov. 29 at 11:59 PM ET.

Jasmyne Spencer Wins with Sydney FC

The Sydney FC Women defeated the FFSA Adelaide United Lady Reds with a goal from Orlando Pride's own Jasmyne Spencer. Spencer scored in the 68th minute off an assist from goalkeeper Michelle Betos, also an NWSL player out on loan. This is Spencer's first goal while playing in the W-Leauge, and helps bump Sydney FC into second place of the league. Spencer will play in the round of eight on Dec. 6.

Jill Ellis Adds Young Talent to a Veteran Roster

As the Victory Tour comes to a close this month in Hawaii, United States Women's National Team Coach Jill Ellis is looking toward the future — the Olympics, to be more precise. With four players already retired, and the number of goalkeepers dropping from three to two, Ellis could essentially bring the rest of her World Cup Champion squad to Rio in 2016. However, Ellis seems to be looking to expand the depth of her already champion caliber team. For these upcoming Victory Tour games, Ellis has called up nine new players, along with National Women's Soccer League MVP, Crystal Dunn, Sam Mewis, and University of Virginia standout Emily Sonnet. Eventually, Ellis will have to make cuts and name an 18-player roster, but for now, there will be competition among the players, and a chance to see some young talent on a veteran roster.

NCAA QuarterFinal Round-Up

In a commanding win, Florida State University advances to the Final Four of the NCAA women's soccer playoffs by defeating Texas A&M 5-0, for a fifth semifinal appearance. The game will be played Dec. 4 in Cary, NC. In other NCAA news, Rutgers defeated top-ranked University of Virginia in a penalty kick shootout to advance to the semifinals. This will be Rutgers' first NCAA Final Four appearance in school history.

Paris Saint-Germain Assigns Security Personnel to Players

Following the terrorist attacks in Paris, the players of Paris Saint-Germain have been assigned security personnel at the homes of each of the players. With the Stade de France, the stadium of PSG, being the target of one of the attacks, security has also been increased in anticipation of their first home game since the terrorist events. The security perimeter has been expanded on the spectator side, as away supporters will not be allowed to attend games until mid-December, as reported yesterday, and bags will not be permitted into the game. The game will be played Saturday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m. ET, against Ligue 1 opponent Troyes.
