Brazilian International Center Back Mônica to Join Orlando Pride

According to The Equalizer soccer blog, Brazilian international center back Mônica Hickmann Alves will be joining NWSL expansion side Orlando Pride for their 2016 debut. Details on the acquisition have not yet been made available.

The defender has played for Ferroviaria in Brazil since 2013. Prior to that she was with Austrian club SV Neulengbach from 2007-2012.

The 30-year-old Mônica has made 25 caps for her country, having competed as a member of the 2015 Brazilian Women’s World Cup team in all of its matches. Brazil bowed out in the round of 16 to Australia. Mônica was also a member of the 2006 U-20 Women’s World Cup in Russia, where Brazil placed third, beating the USA on penalties.

Mônica scored her first national team goal in Brazil's 7-1 win over Ecuador at the 2015 Pan American Games. She also scored in the USWNT's Victory Tour friendly when the USA played Brazil in Seattle on Oct. 21.
