Alex Morgan Scores in 6-0 Drubbing of Trinidad & Tobago; USWNT Stays Undefeated on Victory Tour

The United States Women’s National Team continued its undefeated Victory Tour with a 6-0 thumping of Trinidad and Tobago in San Antonio, TX, Thursday night. Orlando Pride striker Alex Morgan scored, as the U.S. improved to 6-0-1 since winning the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Morgan got the start up top for the Americans and had a multiple first half chances, but could not convert, though she had one goal called back for Carli Lloyd being offside. Morgan did earn the U.S. a penalty in the 20th minute after a nasty collision with the T&T keeper. Captain Lloyd stepped up and buried the spot kick to give the Yanks the 1-0 lead.

Trinidad and Tobago did well to keep the Americans, who dominated possession the entire game, at bay and went into the half only down that one goal. Keeper Kamika Forbes had much to do with the score not getting ridiculous, making save after save to help her team stay relatively competitive.

In the second half the U.S. poured it on. Morgan slotted home in the 52nd minute off a beautiful ball over the top by PSG's Lindsey Horan. Morgan now has three goals in the last four games for the USWNT. Horan had herself an amazing game, dishing out three assists and scoring the final goal for the U.S. in the 92nd minute. With the retirement of Lauren Holiday, Horan has a very good shot of being in the starting XI when the Olympic qualifiers roll around next year.

The other three goals came via a Christen Press hat trick. The Chicago Red Stars forward entered the game in the 60th minute for Morgan and just a minute later scored off a beautiful turn-and-shoot from just outside the box. Goals in the 75th and 84th minutes sealed the hat trick and put the the match firmly to bed.

The loudest cheer from the crowd of 10,690 at the Alamodome was reserved not for one of the goals, but for the entrance of Abby Wambach in the 76th minute. The top scorer in international soccer history took the captain's armband from Lloyd to thunderous applause, but could not get on the score sheet herself. Wambach, who has announced her retirement, will end her illustrious career in the final game of the Victory Tour which is scheduled for Dec. 16 in New Orleans.

The win pushed the USWNT's home unbeaten streak to an astounding 103 matches. The team is back at it on Sunday against China in Glendale, AZ (7 pm ET).

Orlando Pride keeper Ashlyn Harris was an unused substitute.
