USWNT Eases Past China 2-0; U-20 Women Beat Canada to Win CONCACAF Championship

It was a good Sunday for the United States women's soccer program. The senior team kept rolling with a 2-0 win over China in Glendale, AZ, and the U-20 USWNT defeated Canada, 1-0, to capture its fourth consecutive CONCACAF championship.

In game number nine of the USWNT's Victory Tour, Crystal Dunn and Christen Press each scored and the Yanks kept a clean sheet to defeat China, 2-0. Dunn broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, firing home from just inside the 18, after a failed clearance by China. While the U.S. was never really challenged in the first half defensively, China limited the chances of the Americans and made it to the half only down the lone goal.

Orlando Pride star Alex Morgan thought she had a goal in the 41st minute, when she fired home a beautiful shot from a tight angle, but was ruled offside.

The scoreline was the same when Abby Wambach and Press entered the game in the 79th minute. Wambach, playing in her second-to-last game, stepped onto the field to the tune of 19,066 screaming fans. While the attention at that moment was focused on Wambach, Press stole the spotlight just two minutes after coming on. Just like against Trinidad & Tobago on Thursday, Press turned and fired a screamer of a left-footed shot from 20 yards out with one of her first touches to double the U.S. lead.

Alyssa Naeher made a great save to keep the clean sheet intact on the last play of the game, diving to her right to save a snap header off a corner that was destined to hit the back of the net.

The U.S extended its home unbeaten streak to 104 games. The USWNT closes out its Victory tour on Wednesday in New Orleans vs. China as Wambach will take the field one last time to close out her amazing career.

In San Pedro Sula, Honduras, the U.S. U-20 women completed their fourth consecutive CONCACAF championship with a victory over rival Canada. Ashley Sanchez kept her composure and coolly slipped a shot past the onrushing Canadian keeper to score the game's only goal and give the U.S. a 1-0 victory.

After 60 minutes, it looked as though the game could be destined for extra time as neither side could find many clear cut chances. U.S goalkeeper Rose Chandler made the save of the game in the 62nd minute for the Americans after a poor back pass fell to a Canadian player on the end line. Chandler, who had come out to receive the pass, made a terrific diving save to take the ball right off the Canadian's foot before a shot could be fired.

In the 72nd minute, Canada had its own goalkeeping blunder, but this time the Americans made them pay. A poor pass from Canadian keeper Lysianne Proulx fell straight to Sanchez, who made no mistake, slotting home the eventual game winner. The goal was the first conceded by the Canadians in the entire tournament.

For the first time in the tournament, 17-year-old Mallory Pugh did not score for the U.S. The captain did end the tournament as top goal scorer with seven goals.

Both of the finalists had already qualified for the 2016 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Mexico earned the final qualifying spot with a 2-0 win over Honduras in the third-place match.
