Orlando City Finalizes New TV Deal
Orlando City has finalized a new local TV deal with WFTV-Channel 9, opting out of the deal with WOFL-TV FOX 35. While the deal means City games will be on a different channel, the team will look to include more content this year and will most likely lose its partnership with FOX Sports, and games during the week will most likely be televised on TV27. It will also be interesting to see what changes are made to the coverage team.
Ashlyn Harris Goes Beyond the Net
Orlando Pride and USWNT goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris gave this amazing interview with Purpose 2 Play all about her journey that I cannot — I repeat, CANNOT — recommend more highly. Harris goes in-depth about her struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts, which is sure to bring a little emotion out of even the Grinchiest of people. Her story inspires and is absolutely incredible, definitely a great addition to the Orlando family.
Germany Wants American Soccer Players
With players like Julian Green, Timothy Chandler, and John Brooks playing in Germany, it should come as no surprise that the Bundesliga longs for American players to be successful. Personally, I believe this is mostly because of the enormous untapped potential for soccer in America that Germany wants to capture. The more American players that have success in Germany, the more Americans that will watch the Bundesliga in turn. All in all, it’s a win for every side, and we all hope the Americans abroad continue to find success for both club and country.
Everton May Get American Owners
In other news from across the pond, English club Everton has been approached for purchase by an American investor group led by former San Diego Padres owner John J. Moores. If the club is bought by the group, it will be the sixth EPL club owned by Americans. This would be a good deal for Everton as they would hopefully be able to afford to strengthen the back line that so often allows Tim Howard to be abused by opponents.
That's it for today's Lion Links folks, enjoy your Christmas Eve!
