What to Do With the Off-Season Blues

Published

on

The 2016 MLS Season will start on March 6, which seems like a long time from now. So, how can we pass the time until we all are back at the Citrus Bowl? I've got some ideas for things to do before that season opener.

Watch Another Soccer League

Once the NFL and college football seasons end there is not much to watch when it comes to sports. Sure, there is the NBA, college basketball, and the NHL, but you are a soccer fan and you want to watch some matches. The Barclays Premier League will start to ramp up as teams are in mid-season form. These matches can be easily watched with excellent coverage from NBC Sports and their affiliated networks. Germany's first division, the Bundesliga, is also in its mid-season and can be watched on the Fox Sports networks. Find a team that you can get behind and follow them to top division success, or suffer as they may get relegated to the second division. Champions League is now in the Round of 16. This tournament takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and features the best teams in Europe. The tournament is one of the best for its drama in the two-leg playoffs.

Support the Local NBA/ECHL Team

Go out and support the Orlando Magic or the Solar Bears. You probably are asking me why a soccer blog would tell you to go out and watch the NBA team. Listen, you've got to go out and support someone for the next few months, so it might as well be the Magic, or even the ECHL's Solar Bears. They need the support probably more than Orlando City will need this year, but they are still part of the professional sports family in Orlando. Plus, I think both environments need more chants and songs. At the very least it gets you out to celebrate an Orlando win.

Join a Supporters Group

Iron Lion Firm and The Ruckus are always looking for new members. Take this time to join the supporters group of your choice. If you are a diehard fan and you watch the games from the supporters section, you should be in a supporters group. If you haven't been in the supporters section, I implore you to give it a try. The atmosphere within the supporters section is unlike any other environment. If you are going to be in the section, you need to cheer and sing and just have a good time. Membership includes exclusive deals to events, access to supporters' allotment of away tickets, access to each group's social media page and many more perks. Each supporters group has a different membership bundle. It's a great way to get some more Orlando City gear and become part of The Wall. You will be glad you joined a group. You are going to make long lasting friendships while supporting Orlando City .The Ruckus has a membership drive coming up on Jan. 31. Check their Facebook page here for more details. The Iron Lion Firm is accepting memberships online through their website here.

Clear Your Calendars

On Jan. 7 we get the Orlando City schedule. Once the schedule is out, it's time to make sure your calendar is clear for all the home matches. If you happen to work at a job that doesn't have the weekends off, this would be the day to go in and ask for some vacation days. Don't forget the possibility of midweek games, especially those Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches.

That's all I've got for today. How are you spending the final two months of the off-season?
