Lion Links: 1/17/16
Happy Sunday Funday, Mane Landers! Wow, what a busy week we've had here at The Mane Land, and a little lie-in is definitely called for. So if you are planning to spend your whole Sunday in bed, sipping coffee, and bracing yourself for the upcoming week, make sure to check out these links to get you up and at 'em.
Behind-the-Scenes at the NWSL College Draft
Just like the club did for the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, it also gives us a look at the 2016 NWSL College Draft with a behind-the-scenes video of what went on. The club also gave us an interview with new defender Samantha Witteman on what it was like to be drafted by the Orlando Pride, and Tom Sermanni gives us his thoughts on the day's events and the team's selections.
Howard Coming Home?
It is being reported that USMNT goalkeeper Tim Howard may be returning to MLS. After a long and storied career in the EPL, it appears that the Colorado Rapids are trying to lure the U.S. No. 1 stateside. With the Rapids having made moves in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft to secure the top spot in the MLS Allocation Order, it may yet became a reality.
Ashley Cole Set to Join LA Galaxy
Reports coming from the left coast indicate that England international defender Ashley Cole, who is currently signed with AS Roma, has concluded contract settlements to relieve him of his duties at the Italian Serie A club. The settlement paves the way for him to join the Galaxy, which will benefit heavily from this pick-up. This trade would be just one among many exciting new signings that coach Bruce Arena has in mind for this season. It’s clear that his eye is firmly focused on the MLS Cup.
Ronaldo Would "Consider" a Move to MLS
Begrudgingly, we are going to jump on the bandwagon on this one. In what is starting to feel like a never-ending Ronaldo-nado of rumor, CR7's interview with GQ produced a wishy-washy, backhanded compliment to MLS, making up for prior comments, which went like wildfire through the internets.
"I consider it, of course, because as I've said, soccer there has become better and better… I think that this is maybe going to be possible."
You are only seeing it here because… well, if we didn't, you'd judge us as having missed it. So there you go.
Well, that's it from me. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and be sure to keep checking back with The Mane Land for all the news coming out of the wonderful world of soccer.
