After not making any signings to this point, Orlando City SC has announced this afternoon that 19-year-old defensive midfielder and Honduran U-20 international Devron Garcia has signed a contract to play for the Lions.

The Mane Land reported on the possibility of the signing back in late 2015 when news came out of that the young Garcia was set to begin as a trialist with the club in January, 2016.

The 6-foot-3 Deportivo Victoria youth has played for the Honduran national youth teams, which included appearances at the 2013 U-17 World Cup and 2015 U-20 World Cup, where he wore the captain’s armband.

“We are thrilled to bring Devron on board,” said Orlando City Head Coach Adrian Heath, in a press release from the club. “He’s a young, talented and versatile player with a lot of potential to grow into a strong asset for the team.”

One thing to note about this signing is that Garcia will take up the club’s last international roster spot. Originally, it was thought that all spots were taken up, however, according to the Orlando Sentinel’s Paul Tenorio, Richie Laryea, the Lions’ first draft pick, will not count as an international.

Garcia joins fellow countryman forward Bryan Róchez — his national U-20 teammate — on his MLS club.
