Lion Links: 4/30/16

Happy end of the month, Mane Landers. It's a good Saturday for some soccer and we've got another packed weekend of matches ahead of us. If you've been following along with my Lion Links, you may have noticed the trend of women's soccer and weekly awards, and I'd be lying if I said this week was different. There's just too much good stuff going on with the Pride. But to bide the time until the tailgates get fired up, here's what's happening in the Orlando soccer world right now.

Kaká in the Mix for Copa

Orlando City skipper Kaká could be with the Selecao in Orlando this summer as he was named to the preliminary roster for the Copa America Centenario. Kaká joins Liverpool stars Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino, as well as Bayern Munich revelation Douglas Costa and others. While we’ve all been following the Neymar saga and are disappointed he won’t be present, it looks like we’ll also be missing out on Thiago Silva, David Luiz, and Marcelo. Take a look at the 40 players up for selection for the final 23-man squad. There are some interesting decisions made by Dunga.

Kay Rawlins wins Businesswoman of the Year

The South's First Lady of Soccer was honored by the Orlando Business Journal and was named Businesswoman of the Year. The award was predominantly for her role in the Orlando City front office and her work with the Orlando City Foundation, the club's nonprofit wing that has been doing some great stuff around the city. If you'd like more information on the Orlando City Foundation, their website has a lot of information on what they do. Thanks to Kay for her hard work and dedication to the city of Orlando and congratulations for the award!

Ashlyn Harris wins NWSL Save of the Week

Harris continues to impress as she won the NWSL's Save of the Week. The amount of 1v1s that she has stonewalled in the first two matches alone (offside or not) is remarkable. Had some of her saves during the season opener been in live play, she would have been on back-to-back wins. I'm expecting something spectacular again on Sunday. Here's this week's gem:

How harassment, in many forms, continually mark women in sports as "others"

This article is the sobering side of women in sports. Alicia Rodriguez of The Goat Parade tells her story about what it's like for her to cover soccer. I had a hard time describing this piece; there's a lot going on with what women reporters face on a day-to-day basis in a male-dominated field. You may have seen the video discussed on ESPN's Outside the Lines about Julie DiCaro and Sarah Spain, where men read awful tweets directed at the two women reporters to their faces. It's a difficult thing to watch. Rodriguez's story isn't quite so harsh, but it's still a great piece on how much more difficult it is for women in the media, especially the soccer world.

Leicester City Can Make History

One of the stories of the century could culminate this weekend. Leicester City are just three points away from clinching the Premier League title. Either a Tottenham loss against Chelsea or a win against Manchester United at Old Trafford would secure the title. The New York Times called this year "one of the greatest seasons in sports history." Hard to argue with that after they have seemingly accomplished the impossible in English soccer. There would be something poetic about the Foxes winning it all at the so-called "Theatre of Dreams." You can catch the match Sunday morning at 9 a.m. ET.
