Lion Links
Lion Links: 5/2/16
Good Monday morning to you, Mane Landers. It was mixed results this weekend on the soccer front, which we’ll get more into shortly. My fantasy team was doomed to fail this weekend, partly due to Tommy Redding not seeing the pitch or Cyle Larin not getting credit for what I feel are two assists. At the very least, Larin should have gotten one assist, but anyway, I hope your fantasy team is doing better than mine. I’m sure it is.
In other news, like most folks, I’m looking on as Leicester City is on the doorstep of history in the Premier League. It’s hard not to root for the Foxes this year, especially once you learn the story of this season. As we gear up to see our Lions under the lights this Friday at the venue formerly known as the Citrus Bowl, let’s check out some links.
Orlando Pride Falls In Chicago
Our ladies in purple took on the Chicago Red Stars on the road, and the result went against the Pride as the team fell, 1-0. Our Austin David provided a match recap covering all the highlights and key plays. Even with the loss, the Player of the Match for Orlando in my mind was Ashlyn Harris, as she made several saves that should be considered for Save of the Week. Don’t take my word on it, our own Meg Van Dyk graded the performances of each Orlando player. USWNT player Christen Press was able to split the center backs and score off a free kick for the game’s only goal. Come back later today as Brad Newton shares his five takeaways from the match, as the team prepares to take on the Reign next Sunday.
Orlando City B Tops FC Montreal
Out in Melbourne, Orlando City B was able to get its first home win against FC Montreal. OCB is getting used to playing a man down this season, as Devron Garcia was the one to see a red card this match. Our Sean Rollins was at the match and provided his recap. OCB can’t afford any time to enjoy this win, however, as the team will prepare for two more matches against strong opposition this week, first on May 4 against FC Cincinnati then Bethlehem Steel FC on May 7.
USMNT Copa América Preliminary Roster Released
Sunday, Jurgen Klinsmann released the preliminary 40-man roster for this summer’s Copa América. Noticeably absent from the roster was Orlando City player Brek Shea. I would like to think Shea could have gotten at least a mention because Jurgen was one of Brek’s supporters as he moved to the back line. I’m not going to even try to figure out what Klinsmann is thinking at this point.
Liga MX in the U.S.
Finally today, I wanted to share an article from the L.A. Times, which explains why Liga MX is the most watched league in the United States. I had to point this out because as I was watching MLS on Friday, the channel I was watching on took the game off to play a Liga MX match. Once I found the MLS match on the other channel, I had the same Liga MX match on my television and the MLS match in a tiny box in the corner. Nice going, UniMás.
Well, Mane Landers, that's all I have today. If you can, tune in to see Chelsea and Tottenham like I plan to this afternoon. Until then, Keep roaring.
