U.S. Open Cup 2016: Orlando City To Visit Jacksonville Armada In Fourth Round

Orlando City has learned its June 15 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup date opponent: the Lions will travel back up to Duval County for the second time this year to take on the Jacksonville Armada at Jacksonville University.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Southern Oak Stadium.

The Armada advanced to the fourth round of the tournament on Wednesday night after pulling out a late 2-1 victory over the Charleston Battery in extra time, in Jacksonville.

Orlando City and the Armada hooked up earlier this year, in the preseason, with Jacksonville coming out on top in the first ever meeting between the two Florida clubs, 2-1. Kaká scored a free kick goal in his preseason debut for the Lions on that night at Community First Park in Jacksonville. Former Lion Mechack Jérôme and Alhassane Keita scored for Jacksonville.

As it stands, the Armada are dead last in the NASL standings with just five points through their first eight games this season. Orlando will be well rested heading into the match, with two weeks off between competitive matches, and is expected to feature a side featuring a handful of bench/reserve players.

The Armada will bring some familiar faces to the fray. In addition to the aforementioned Jérôme, Jacksonville is the new home of longtime Lions goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo, as well as defender Bryan Burke and forward Matt Fondy, who won the USL's MVP award last season playing for Orlando City's affiliate club in Louisville.

Still, the stakes will be as high as ever for Orlando City to be competitive in the tournament with the Lions eyeing a trophy and an elusive spot on the CONCACAF Champions' League next season.
