Orlando City B Falls Apart

Well, let's this out of the way. OCB was in action last night in Melbourne where the young Lions were hosting Louisville City FC. Most of the time in soccer having a man advantage would be a part of a win, but the OCB defense let in four goals. Our Sean Rollins recapped the 4-3 loss. The less said about this match, the better. Let's move on to better news.

U.S. Women's National Team Wins Again

In Ohio, the women’s national team took on the national team in Japan in the second match of a two-part series. In a weather-shortened match, the U.S. won 2-0. Orlando Pride captain and national team striker Alex Morgan scored the second goal from a Crystal Dunn cross. The scoring for the U.S. began in 27th minute, with Julie Johnson netting a goal while in an offside position. The players will now return to their respective NWSL team until they take on South Africa on July 9.

It Gets Hot In Orlando During The Day

So playing in the middle of the day in Orlando might not have been the best decision, as Paraguay’s head coach Ramon Diaz commented in his post-match news conference on Saturday. The Copa organizers may not have taken the heat into account like MLS does when scheduling, as most league matches are set for an evening kickoff. Orlando will host two more Copa matches. Tonight, Panama will take on Bolivia at 7 p.m. and Brazil takes on Haiti on Wednesday night at 7:30. We’ll see how the weather impacts those games.

Jamaica took on Venezuela yesterday and fell to the South American side, 1-0. Before the game, it was reported Wes Morgan was too tired to participate in the match due to his excessive celebrating of Leicester City’s Premier League title. Morgan did not start the match but was subbed on for Jamaica in the 40th minute…Are you a fan of a Canadian athlete like Orlando Pride defender Josée Bélanger? Well, now you can adopt an athlete to support her. I think it’s a neat idea. The U.S. should do something like this too…Orlando Pride defender Laura Alleway spoke to FourFourTwo on the Matildas’ success and growth in the W-league, comparing the United States as the standard for women’s soccer. The Matildas will be gearing up for this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio.
