Pride Pub Friendly Edition: Orlando City vs. Stoke City
Welcome back to the Pride Pub! Orlando City is hosting English Premier League club, Stoke City on Wednesday night at Titan Soccer complex in Melbourne. Funny how things happen. Inchy is gone, but here we are playing his old team. Regardless, this is a friendly, so let’s hope for a well-played game with no injuries.
Just a reminder on how this works: we choose a craft beer from the country/state/city of our opponent and we include an appropriate recipe to go along with it. Of course, we also choose a Florida craft beer to complement our other recipe, and to represent our Orlando City Lions here in the beautiful Sunshine State.
From England – Nut Brown Ale, Samuel Smiths Brewery
You have to love the time scale of the old English breweries. Samuel Smith's Brewery is the oldest brewery in Yorkshire. By old they mean they started in 1758 — 18 years before we declared our independence! Yeah…
According to the brewery:
"Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); best barley malt, yeast and aromatic hops; fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares to create a relatively dry ale with rich nutty colour and palate of beech nuts, almonds and walnuts."
Pair with: Roast Beef with Horseradish Sauce! The earthiness of both the brown ale and the horseradish sauce will go very well together.
Dave's recommendations: Rosemary Roasted Potatoes. Delicious on their own, or dip them in the horseradish sauce as well!
From Orlando – Olde Pelican English Pale Ale, Orlando Brewing.
According to the brewery:
"Our English style Pale Ale is a robust, full bodied beer. It has a moderate caramel flavor with a slight chocolate essence that brings out the sharp English hop flavor."
Pair with: English Style Fish and Chips. Yes, I know that the long time readers of Pride Pub are saying, "Hey! You’ve done these before!" To which I say, "So what? It’s not easy to come up with new stuff all the time. Plus, it’s really appropriate this time since we’re playing an English team, so shut up!" I don’t mean that, and you know I value all the pub patrons.
Dave's recommendations: Honestly, all you need is plenty of malt vinegar and some salt to complete this traditional recipe.
Thank you for stopping by the Pride Pub. As always, please comment below and let us know what you think. Vamos Orlando!
