Orlando Pride vs. Boston Breakers: Final Score 1-0 as Shorthanded Pride Fall on Road Again

Natasha Dowie scored the game winner on her debut for the Boston Breakers, as the team took down the Orlando Pride, 1-0, in Boston. The win was only the second of the season for the Breakers, who still sit at the bottom of the NWSL with seven points. The loss does nothing for the Pride, who stay in seventh place, two points behind the Seattle Reign.

Missing stars Alex Morgan, Ashlyn Harris and four others due to the Olympics, plus the injured Sarah Hagen (concussion), the Pride fell behind after just 10 minutes. A nice through-ball opened up the Pride back line before Dowie, playing in her first match with the Breakers, latched onto the pass and broke the deadlock with a cool finish from close range.

While the Pride did well to maintain possession as the game progressed, chances were few and far between. The best chance came in the 37th minute, when the Pride hit the post off a scramble in front of the Breakers goal.

Orlando could very well have had a penalty in second half stoppage time, when forward Jasmyne Spencer was bundled over in the Boston box. The referee waved play on, however, much to the dismay of Pride Head Coach Tom Sermanni.

The Pride will not take the field again for nearly a month, as the NWSL begins its Olympic break. When the team does hit the field again, the Pride will do so on Aug. 26 at home against the Washington Spirit.
