Lion Links
Lion Links: 9/11/16
Good morning everyone and welcome to The Church of Lion. Before we get started, I’d like to take just a moment to remember what happened to our great country 15 years ago. It was one of our darkest times and the aftermath showed just how strong we are.
As we enjoy the game this evening, let’s all take just a moment to remember those who lost their lives and the families that still to deal with it today. My heart goes out to you.
Now, let’s get on to the Links on a double match day for the club.
Pride Winless Streak Reaches Seven Games
Despite what should have been a momentum-building goal going into halftime by Kristen Edmonds (check out the video in the recap, linked later in this section), the Pride came out flat to start the second half and conceded two quick goals to Sky Blue FC. The Pride weren’t able to find an equalizer and fell 2-1 at home in the penultimate game of their 2016 inaugural NWSL season. Alex Morgan and Ashlyn Harris will report to the USWNT before the season finale on Sept. 24.
Speaking of Edmonds…
In a cool write up by OGM, Orlando Pride’s own Kristen Edmonds gets her due. The article does an excellent job highlighting what Edmonds brings to the team and her journey to get to the Pride.
As one of the more consistent players this year, I’m glad Kristen is getting her due in this write-up. Sometimes I feel she gets lost in the mix with some of the more popular players getting the headlines. So take a quick minute to read the article and get yourself familiar with an awesome player.
Ashlyn Harris Tackles a Serious Subject
It’s a Pride sort of day today as we go from Edmonds to Harris. In this video, Harris, along with Jamie Tworkowski, talk about suicide in relation to World Suicide Prevention Day. It is an awkward subject that makes people uncomfortable, but it needs to be discussed.
I lost someone very important to me because of suicide. I would never wish that pain upon anyone. Talking about it is the only way to get the word out, so kudos to Ashlyn for being a voice for it. Hopefully, this video will get the message out on a worldwide level.
Kreis Happy to see Donovan
Stopping by the Boot Room, Jason Kreis talks shop and how he is glad to see Landon Donovan coming back to the pitch. Hey, at least someone is, am I right?
Kreis played in the league with Donovan, so I’m sure it might be a cool factor that someone can come back after (not the longest mind you) retirement. Or it could be just playing nice before his team goes on to the field against the Galaxy tonight. Between me and you, reader, I really don’t expect to see Donovan on the field. And if he is, the Galaxy might be hurting more than they are letting on.
Manchester Derby: Part 1
Ah yes, the Premiere League’s version of the Hatfields and McCoys went at it yesterday, with Manchester City taking the first game this year, 2-1. Manchester City got off to a fast start, getting two goals in the first 36 minutes.
Then, Mane Land favorite (legend even?) ZLATAN!!! scored, bringing the Red Devils within one. Manchester United wasn’t able to complete the comeback, but that volley-shot from ZLATAN!!! was a beauty.
If you missed this game at Old Trafford, you missed a classic.
Well guys, that’s it for today. Again, Orlando City is out in LA tonight (start time is 7 p.m.), so stop back by later today for complete coverage. And don’t forget the young Lions. Orlando City B will play tonight in Toronto against TFCII at 7:30 p.m.
Have a great day everyone!
