Lion Links: 9/12/16

Welcome to the Monday morning edition of Lion Links! After last night’s match I don’t feel like sharing my feelings, so let’s get to it. Both Orlando City and OCB lost last night, so unfortunately there’s plenty to cover.

Orlando City Fall 4-2 at LA Galaxy

Orlando City went west and came away with no points against the LA Galaxy. Landon Donovan made a quick appearance, but had nothing to do with the outcome. Fortunately, Orlando City is still above the red line for the playoffs, so all is not lost. Let’s get to the meat of things.

And check back later this morning when I’ll have our five takeaways from the match.

Orlando City B Clings to Final Playoff Spot

OCB lost 2-1 last night to Toronto City II. The young Lions had an opportunity to all but clinch that eighth and final playoff spot in the USL’s Eastern Conference. Fortunately, despite the loss, Bethlehem Steel FC and Harrisburg are already out so if OCB can just scratch and claw to stay ahead of the Wilmington Hammerheads for two more matches, the reserves will play postseason soccer.

Brek Shea Paints a Picture

Brek Shea is quite the renaissance man, as Orlando City fans already know. But did you know the man can paint? Oh, yeah. While the left footer expressing his art is admirable, the comments are interesting as well.

USMNT Players Contributing Abroad

There are USMNT players in various leagues outside of MLS, and they had a pretty good weekend. Bobby Wood has played two games in the Bundesliga and has scored two goals. That’s pretty darn good, though one came in a 3-1 loss. In England, DeAndre Yedlin scored off the bench to further Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Derby County. Finally, Danny Williams scored in stoppage time to give Reading the win over Ipswich Town. Well done, boys!

There’s Soccer in England, Too!

There were some fun games in the English Premier League this weekend. Liverpool took it to defending champs Leicester City, 4-1, and Swansea and Chelsea played an intriguing draw. If you’re not also watching EPL, Bundesliga, La Liga, or Serie A, then you should. After you watch Orlando City and read The Mane Land, of course.

That’s all we’ve got for you to get your work week started. Thanks for stopping by!
