Lion Links: 9/13/16

Three points out of six isn't bad for a two-game road trip, especially when the team was on an 11-game road winless streak, but the difference in performances is worrying as Orlando City tries to retain its place above the red line. Those worries, however, will have to be placed on the back burner. As you start your Tuesday, enjoy today's daily digest of soccer that you need to know.

A Flight Too Far

After playing in Montreal on Wednesday, Orlando flew straight to LA and got absolutely shellacked by the LA Galaxy in a 4-2 defeat, with some help from the PRO referees. It was a tale of two cities for the Lions on this road trip and it appears that travel time for all players, including the returning Cyle Larin and Kevin Molino, may have played its part.

One person who will have enjoyed his time in the The Golden State is Servando Carrasco, who was able to get to see some of his family members while back in his home state having been born in Coronado, Calif.

Team of the Week Triumphs

Orlando’s captain, Kaká, once again finds himself in the MLS Team of the Week after his fantastic performance against the Montreal Impact. Players who missed out were Carlos Rivas, who notched a goal and two assists in the same game, and Brek Shea, who scored two goals in two games, despite only seeing the pitch for 78 minutes in those two games. MLS may have failed to acknowledge their accomplishments, however they did make Goal.com’s team for Week 27.

Bendik Up for Save of the Week

I feel like I get to write this paragraph a lot but, once again, Orlando City goalkeeper Joe Bendik finds himself up for MLS Save of the Week after his great diving save on Didier Drogba.

The save meant that Orlando went into halftime with the lead and it was a pivotal moment in last Wednesday's game, which meant that we were able to leave Canada with three points.

Wambach Comes Clean

Abby Wambach is a legend not just in the U.S. for women's soccer, but worldwide. She holds the world record for international goals by either a man or woman, and was FIFA Women's World Player of the Year back in 2012. However, since her retirement from the game, things haven't been too rosy. She got a DUI back in April and now has revealed that she has been abusing alcohol and prescription drugs for a number of years. As well as that, she also announced that she is divorcing her wife Sarah Huffman, whom she married in 2013. We certainly hope Abby can turn things around.
