Orlando City’s Defense Must Keep D.C. United From Building Early Momentum

Published

on

Momentum is fickle. In seconds, the force with which it works can be swung from one end of the spectrum to the other. Sometimes slowly, but sometimes very violently. Despite being built up with precision, creativity, and even a touch of flair, every last ounce of momentum you thought you had stored for "your moment" can cruelly be ripped right out from under you.

This was one of those times.

As Orlando City prepares to play host to D.C. United this Sunday, the Lions will remember Sept. 24. They will remember the 33rd minute. And they certainly should. It was in that moment where defensive miscues, paired with opposing execution, led to a crippling loss for Orlando City, which have since bowed out of playoff contention.

We'll dissect this play in the video below, but know that Jason Kreis, his staff, and his players have already done so over and over and over again. Here's to better results.

Author's note: I mistakenly referred to Kevin Alston as Rafael Ramos in the video. My apologies to Rafa.
