It’s the weekend, baby! Even with it being the weekend, it’s sadly a game-less one with the Lions out of the playoffs. We now look into the off-season and see what Jason Kreis will do to prepare the squad for a make-or-break season in that cool new stadium set to open next year. But we do have good news to share in regards to Orlando Pride players.

Kristen Edmonds Gets First USWNT Call-Up

Jill Ellis made her decision as she chose the 23 call-ups to face Romania twice next month. Leading the charge for the locals is Kristen Edmonds, who had a great season with the Pride that included the team’s Golden Boot award. Carli Lloyd even got in on the congratulations party as her tweet shows-

Along with the 29-year-old Edmonds, two more Pride players got the nod as Alex Morgan makes her return to the team after missing October’s friendlies and Ashlyn Harris returns after a good season with the Pride.

Who Could Really Use the MLS Cup?

Over at the official site of MLS, Will Parchman took a look at which teams can really use the Cup this time around. The three teams he listed were the Seattle Sounders, FC Dallas, and New York Red Bulls. As I see it, the Sounders need the Cup the most as shown by this quote from the article:

“In many ways the Sounders have been MLS pioneers. But until they capture an MLS Cup, something they seem able to do this year, that itch will continue to burn through the city.”

While they have been successful in other competitions, the MLS Cup is the title that the Sounders crave the most. Playoffs can sometimes be a crapshoot, but that just adds to the intrigue of them.

Conor Casey Calls it a Career

Crew SC Forward, Conor Casey has retired. The striker retires after a great career that included stops at Borussia Dortmund and winning an MLS Cup with the Colorado Rapids in 2008. Casey has 19 USMNT caps to his credit and scored two goals with the Stars and Stripes. Known for his trademark bald head, his run in Colorado was amazing, scoring 50 goals in 119 appearances for the club and that’s really the only recollection I have of him. Being a younger fan I don’t remember his Bundesliga days.

Have the Houston Dynamo Found Their New Head Coach?

According to FourFourTwo’s Paul Tenorio, the Dynamo will appoint Wilmer Cabrera as new head coach after not retaining interim skipper Wade Barrett a couple of days ago. Cabrera comes from nearby as he coached the Dynamo’s USL affiliate team, Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, where he finished second in the West but was eliminated in the quarterfinals by the OKC Energy. Before that, he was at Chivas USA for that club’s final MLS season and coached the Colombian National U-17 team as well. In the article, you can see how some players were ticked off by Barrett’s dismissal, so hopefully for their sake Cabrera can bring the squad some success since they haven’t had much to cheer for after Dominic Kinnear left for the San Jose Earthquakes in 2014.
