Lion Links
Lion Links: 11/14/16
Welcome to the Monday morning edition of Lion Links. Well, it was a heck of a weekend in college football, but that’s not why we’re here. It’s our job to bring you soccer news no matter what is going on, and we do have some exciting stuff for you to start your week.
Before we get you started on that, we want to give Orlando Pride forward Lisa de Vanna a happy birthday shout-out. Lisa is 32 years young today.
Let’s get to the Links!
USWNT Blasts Romania Again
While it wasn’t the beat down we saw the other night, the USWNT defeated the Romanian squad for a second time in a week. The best team in the world took it to Romania, 5-0, in another dominant performance. No surprise here, but it was fun to watch. Alex Morgan and Ali Krieger represented the Orlando Pride, with both coming off the bench at halftime.
Tim Howard Will Miss MLS Playoffs
Turns out the Colorado Impact and the USMNT are without Timmy after the U.S. versus Mexico game. He’ll be out with a right adductor injury suffered against El Tri. This is a serious injury that will most likely require surgery and lots of time to heal. It’ll probably be months, rather than weeks, which is a shame for Colorado, which must go up against the potent attack of the Seattle Sounders in the MLS playoffs.
Deuce to Return in 2017?
Seems that Clint Dempsey might be back in action for the USMNT sooner than expected. It will take a clean bill of health, but the USMNT could use the American striker, and they’ve been in contact. When Clint makes his return is still to be determined.
Fastest Man Alive to Play Soccer?
So it seems that after professional running, Usain Bolt has decided that professional soccer is in his future, and will train with Borussia Dortmund. It will be interesting to see if his speed transitions to the pitch in a meaningful way. There's not a center back in the world who could stay with him.
That’ll do it for the start of your week, but have fun and check back here for more on your Lions, and the rest of the soccer world.
