Happy Jan. 3, or as I call it, the day most New Year’s resolutions die. If you are like me and find yourself failing to measure up to the resolutions, take heart and know that you are not alone. Do as I do and occupy your thoughts with soccer and remember: in a few short months, we will be back together and those resolutions will be a thing of the past.

Orlando City CEO Promises Lions Won’t Change

Phil Rawlins’ exit from the club’s day-to-day operations as Orlando City’s president came as a shock to many, including CEO Alex Leitão. While some were concerned about the future of the club, Leitão is not, promising no big moves or changes in the near future. That includes not taking on the title of president — that honor will remain with Rawlins. Going forward, Leitão said he is going to do his best to uphold Rawlins’ legacy.

“I’ve been in love with this city for a long, long time. So, look we are not going to agree all the time, I know that, but I want [fans] to understand what we’re doing here is legitimate and I’m telling the truth.”

OCSC Close to Announcing Stadium Naming Rights

The new stadium is close to receiving its official name according to Leitão. The stadium, which is expected to be finished Jan. 17, has been without an official name since land broke over a year ago. That may soon be changing, as Leitão claims the club hopes to make an announcement within the week. The eventual partner’s name will be located in five places in the new stadium, per the master signage plans submitted to the city.

Orlando Pride Recognized for Support of Pulse Victims

Following the events that took place on June 12, the NWSL community banded together to honor and support the 49 victims of the Pulse shooting, this included a commemorative game between the Pride and Washington Spirit. Equalizer Soccer noted this game as being one of the top women’s soccer moments of the year 2016. Then-Washington Spirit player Ali Krieger sported an Orlando United shirt saying, “It was an emotional moment and we wanted to support and love each other, standing united with Orlando.”
