Meet the New Guy: Scott Carnevale

After writing for other sites over the past few years I am excited to be joining The Mane Land! I am looking forward to writing about Orlando City and the United States National Team.

Growing up I played as a goalkeeper. While I got playing time in the field as well, I am a keeper at heart. Because of that, I always love to see an amazing save rather than a goal of the week candidate. One of my favorite Orlando City moments is also about a goalkeeper. I will never forget back in 2011 when Sean Kelley came into the USL Chamionship game and played lights out to help Orlando get its first trophy.

In addition to playing, I have also officiated for a few years. Being a referee makes you view the game in a completely different way and it is something that I hope to get back into. I constantly find myself looking at where the referee is positioned throughout a game, especially when a call is missed.

As for Orlando City, I was at the franchise home opener and it took just that one game for me to fall in love with this club. Although throughout the years the club has changed a great deal, both good and poor changes, I believe the Lions are heading in the right direction. I am looking forward to what the future holds for not just Orlando City but all of MLS.

I am also looking forward to writing about U.S. soccer. Possibly the only team I follow closer than Orlando City is the USMNT. My favorite moment in U.S. soccer history is when Brian McBride got elbowed in the 2006 World Cup against Italy. His face dripping with blood, he just wrapped it up, and went back on the field like nothing happened, even going for a header!

The organization is in a tough spot and will have to be at its best to get out of the Hex, but Bruce Arena should have enough to power them through to the World Cup. What I am most interested in, is what do they do from there? Keep Arena or go a different way? I hope Arena is just a short-term solution, and Peter Vermes takes over after Russia.

I am excited about my new journey with The Mane Land and am thrilled to have joined the team.
