USA vs Jamaica, International Friendly: How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, Lineups, Match Thread and More

Welcome to your match thread for the last U.S. Men’s National Team match of the 2017 January camp, as Team USA takes on Jamaica. Last week, the Americans played Serbia to a goalless draw in San Diego. Today’s game is over 2,000 miles east in Chattanooga, TN.

The two CONCACAF rivals have a long history with each other. Their first match came way back in 1988 and resulted in a goalless draw. Now, 29 years later, the USMNT has only lost two matches, going 13-2-8 against Jamaica all time. However, the last match came on July 22, 2015, when the U.S. was outplayed and lost, 2-1. Of the 11 MLS players on that U.S. team, six are on today’s roster.

But this is not a revenge match for the USMNT. Instead, it is the last chance for the MLSers to make an impact and become part of Bruce Arena’s plans come March. Against Serbia a few players stood out, but it was Greg Garza and Darlington Nagbe who made the biggest splash. However, Garza stood out for all the wrong reasons. He was one of the worst players on the field and might have blown any opportunity of making the roster once the Europe-based players join. On the other end of the spectrum, Nagbe was the Man of the Match. The game seemed to revolve around him on the offensive end and he picked up the slack for Garza on the defensive end.

Expect a few changes from last week. The first is in goal. Nick Rimando will likely switch with David Bingham, just to give both keepers an equal opportunity. There will also be changes in the midfield, as Jermaine Jones went home after being suspended for the Honduras match, and Sacha Kljestan also left the team to see the birth of his second child.

The big question for Arena’s men is who will step up and make a claim to be on the roster for The Hex?

As for the Reggae Boyz, they are getting ready for the Caribbean Cup and the Gold Cup, both of which are this summer, having already been knocked out of World Cup qualifying for 2018. Goalkeeper Andre Blake is the star for Jamaica and won the 2017 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year by a landslide, beating out all the goalkeepers on the USMNT’s current roster and Tim Howard. The Yanks will have to be at their best in order to get one past Blake.

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be "that guy" who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It's OK to be critical, and, let's face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we'd rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.
