USA vs. El Salvador, CONCACAF U-20 Championship: How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, Rosters, Match Thread and More

Coming off a historic 1-0 win against Mexico on Monday, the United States Under-20 Men’s National Team will look to take at least a point today to advance to the CONCACAF Championship final and book a place in the World Cup. The U.S. takes on El Salvador — who lost to Mexico 6-1 Wednesday — in the final game of the Classification Stage.

With a U.S. win or draw the Yanks will win Group D and play Honduras in the final on Sunday. If the U.S. fails to win, Mexico will advance to the final with a goal differential of six. Barring a loss by more than two goals, the Yanks will still qualify for the World Cup even if they fail to pick up any points tonight.

Against Mexico, the U.S. dominated the game and looked the better team throughout. The Americans created numerous chances but the lone goal came off a set piece. Brooks Lennon, currently at Real Salt Lake on loan from Liverpool, followed up a hat trick and Man of the Match performance against St. Kitts and Nevis with the game-winning corner kick assist against defending champions Mexico. Sporting Kansas City’s Erik Palmer-Brown got on the end of it and headed it home, and the lone goal was enough to defeat the defending champions.

Orlando City’s first ever Homegrown player, Tommy Redding, started and played the full 90 minutes. Redding has played all but 29 minutes for the Red, White & Blue in the CONCACAF Championship, and has been a constant thorn in the opposition’s attack. Redding was a key part of the U.S. shutout against El Tri and forced Mexican forward Ronaldo Cisneros to become almost nonexistent in the attack.

After the Mexico game, Head Coach Tab Ramos complimented his team’s defense.

“I thought the team just gave everything they had and didn’t give options to Mexico to win the game.”

Ramos will be looking for Redding and fellow center back Justen Glad to control the El Salvador attack in the same fashion. If the U.S. picks up at least a point, Ramos will become the first head coach to lead the USMNT to three straight U-20 World Cups.

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be "that guy" who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It's OK to be critical, and, let's face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we'd rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.
