USA vs. England, SheBelieves Cup: How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, Preview, Lineups, Match Thread and More

After defeating Olympic Champions Germany on Wednesday, the United States Women’s National Team prepares to face England in their second match of the SheBelieves Cup.

Both sides had opposite endings to their respective opening matches. England lost to France on a late goal, and the U.S. won fairly comfortably against Germany.

This will be the two countries’ first meeting since they last met at the 2016 SheBelieves Cup, in which the USWNT won, 1-0. In 2015, they met in England where the Americans also came away with the 1-0 victory.

England

It was a strong showing for England in the first half of its match against France. The English worked well in the midfield, and were rewarded with a goal from Jordan Nobbs. However, they struggled late in the second half and it cost them in the end, with France scoring on about the game’s final kick.

The roster for England is a veteran one, as 15 of the 23 players were members of the 2015 World Cup squad. Two players on the roster have ties to the U.S, as forward Jodie Taylor is a member of the Portland Thorns and defender Lucy Bronze played for the University of North Carolina.

Thus far in 2017, England is 0-2-1, losing to Norway and drawing Sweden in January.

United States of America

The win against Germany was a fine way to start 2017, especially after a disappointing performance at the Olympics. Although the match finished 1-0, it could have easily been at least a two- or three-goal win. There were multiple opportunities to finish, but in the end they were wasted.

Christen Press and Lynn Williams were very active in the match on Wednesday, and will be key players for success on Saturday. Williams netted the USWNT’s only goal, and was a presence around the net for most of the match.

Defensively, the U.S. was decent and allowed 11 shots on goal. The Americans should have the three-back look on Saturday again. Alyssa Naeher played well in net and picked up the clean sheet, making four saves.

In the midfield, it wasn’t the smoothest of performances and perhaps was the one weak point during the match against Germany. There could be changes in the lineup on hand.

Alex Morgan was the only member of the Orlando Pride that played on Wednesday, she came on as a substitute in the second half for Williams. Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger could get a look tonight.
