Lion Links
Lion Links: 4/2/17
Well, we couldn't expect it to last forever, but it was pretty cool to be a month into the season and still on a winning streak. Of course, Orlando City had only played two games, but it was still cool. Yesterday, the bragging ended and the reality kicked in as Orlando City lost to Columbus Crew, 2-0 at Mapfre Stadium. Anyhow, we have still had a good start to the season and today we also have a good set of Lion Links for you to enjoy.
Orlando City Taken Down 2-0 by Columbus Crew
As mentioned above, Orlando City lost yesterday to the Crew in Columbus. Their two goals came from Justin Meram, who scored early and late in the game. The game perhaps came as a wake-up call for the Lions who were to this point unbeaten. Here is where you can find all our #content.
- Logan Oliver has given his player grades and Man of the Match.
- Guilherme Torres was at Mapfre Stadium and has the match recap.
- Our friends at Massive Report have the enemy’s perspective of the game.
Aja Picks Up a Hamstring Injury; Redding Fills In
It seems almost every time we turn around another OCSC player is picking up a muscle injury and Jose Aja is just the latest to catch the bug. In the game against Crew SC he seemed to have pulled his hamstring which subsequently led to him leaving the game. Tommy Redding stepped in and looked pretty solid. Considering we don’t know how long Aja will be out, it's great to know that the Lions have a capable replacement.
Update on Jose Aja injury: hamstring, probably grade 1, will be evaluated tomorrow.

Alex Morgan Says Move to Lyon was the Right Decision
When Alex Morgan’s loan to France was announced most Orlando Pride fans were left shaking their heads. The confusion was caused by the fact that she will miss a good chunk of the 2017 season with the Pride. The USWNT standout explains here why she made the call to go to Lyon and why it was the right move for her. Luckily for Pride fans, the team looks they will do just fine without her. Speaking of which…
Orlando Pride Defeat Florida State, 3-0
The Pride have been on fire this preseason in an effort to improve on their mediocre first NWSL season. Yesterday, they got another win, this time against Florida State. The game ended 3-0, with goals coming from Jasmyne Spencer, Danica Evans, and Chioma Ubogagu. It was good outing with lots of positives for Head Coach Tom Sermanni to take away. Their last preseason game is on April 7 against the U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team. And then, after the match, this happened last night:

Bastian Schweinsteiger Scores on His Debut
There has been a lot of talk about the transfer of Bastian Schweinsteiger to Major League Soccer. Even though this season we’ve seen different types of Designated Players, it's good to see that international stars still consider the U.S. as their final destination. Yesterday, Schweinsteiger played in his debut against the Montreal Impact and it didn't take long for him to make an impact, scoring in the 16th minute. The game ended 1-1 and we already have a glimpse of how he can possibly help Chicago to win their first ever World Cup.

That’s it for today. Glad you all survived April Fool’s Day and now we’ll wait a week to see if the Lions can return to their winning ways when the Red Bulls invade Orlando City Stadium.
