Orlando Pride Waives Forward Sarah Hagen

The Orlando Pride have waived forward Sarah Hagen. Hagen was one of the club’s first three players signed coming by way of trade via FC Kansas City.

Last season, Hagen made 17 appearances accumulating 587 minutes of on field time, scoring two goals and adding two assists in the 2016 NWSL season. She took only nine shots all season but got seven of those attempts on target.

“Making a move like this is never easy, and it was an incredibly difficult decision to part ways with Sarah,” Pride Head Coach Tom Sermanni said in a club press release.  “Sarah has been a consummate professional both on and off the field. We thank her for her commitment to the Pride and wish her the best of luck in her future, hopefully in the NWSL.”

What it Means for the Pride

With Hagen’s departure one thing this could hurt for the Pride is attacking depth. Her presence and ability as a veteran forward has been valuable to Orlando as she presents an extra attacking threat on the field.

Even if it does hurt the attacking depth, this move in many ways can be seen as a move to make room for Marta. If that is the case then you could be looking at big potential down the line.

For now though, it is important to thank Sarah Hagen for her time and devotion to the Orlando Pride. Her contributions to the club have helped carve a path for women in Orlando for the future.
