Welcome to this Tuesday edition of Lion Links. Hopefully everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day weekend. Yesterday was a slow news day, but I have a couple links for you Mane Landers to check out while you’re bored at work.

Quick Weekend Recap

To put it mildly, it was a tough weekend for Orlando teams. In case you missed any of it during holiday weekend travel or festivities, here is a quick recap of all three matches. We also have independent recaps of Orlando City’s 1-0 loss at Minnesota, OCB’s 3-1 defeat to Charlotte, and Orlando Pride’s loss at Sky Blue.

Canada Honors Former Pride Retirees

Former Canadian Women’s National Team and Orlando Pride players Josée Bélanger and Kaylyn Kyle, who are both recently retired, will be honored by their home country in Canada’s upcoming international match on June 11 in Toronto. Both players spent the 2016 season with the Pride, making 14 and 17 appearances, respectively. Bélanger announced her official retirement from soccer yesterday.

Week 7: Women’s National Team players in NWSL

There are plenty of USWNT players in the NWSL, and the majority of them were in action over the weekend. Here is how they did in their respective games. Standouts for the week include Becky Sauerbrunn, who scored the game winner for FC Kansas City, and a Sydney Leroux brace.

Youth Soccer Camp

On June 21, youth soccer players between the ages of 5 and 12 will have a chance to attend a free clinic at Orlando City Stadium. You can find the form here.

Free Kicks:

  • There is a turf war already underway in Los Angeles between Galaxy and LAFC supporters, before the expansion team has even played a single match.
  • Congrats to Huddersfield Town, which defeated Reading 4-3 in penalty kicks to earn promotion to the English Premier League.
  • VFL Wolfsburg will remain in Bundesliga, the top division of German soccer, after defeating Eintracht Braunschweig over a two-leg final.

That’s all I’ve got for you for today. Apologies for the lack of Orlando City news over the holiday, but make sure to check out all the other great articles from our writers here at The Mane Land
