Lion Links
Lion Links: 6/20/17
It’s Tuesday again, Mane Landers, so I am back with another edition of Lion Links. It was a tough week in many different respects for Orlando City, but we can take solace in the fact that the Orlando Pride are rounding into form and Alex Morgan is back, even if she’s currently hurt.
We’ve got to take the good with the bad. With that being said, let’s get to the links.
Matias Perez Garcia Makes Bench on MLS TotW
Matias Perez Garcia was recognized by being selected to the bench on the Week 16 MLS Team of the Week. Perez Garcia was selected for his performance in Orlando City’s 3-3 draw vs. Montreal, in which he had a goal and an assist. It was the type of performance that the team has been looking for from MPG, controlling possession, and sending dangerous balls into the box.
On the broadcast, they were calling the first half the best soccer that Orlando City has played in the last two seasons. But for some reason, the team came out flat and played a horrible second half, barely escaping with a point.
That game was a tough pill to swallow, but the team has to get over it quickly. The schedule is difficult the rest of the way, so there is no time to dwell on what could’ve been.
Vote Jonathan Spector Goal of the Week
Jonathan Spector has been nominated for MLS Goal of the Week for his header in stoppage time to save a point for OCSC. There may have been a little luck involved because he couldn’t have thrown it into goal any better than that. Considering the goal and the moment, it can’t get any better than that. Voting closes Thursday, June 22, so let’s get out and vote early and often.

Orlando City fans were recognized for the tifo they did in tribute to the Pulse Nightclub victims. A tifo is a choreographed display in which fans in a sports stadium raise a large banner together or simultaneously hold up signs that together form a larger image.

That’s all for this edition. Everyone rest up, because it will be a long night tomorrow with OCSC traveling to Seattle to face the Sounders. And stick around later this morning for OCB’s match at the Ottawa Fury at 11 a.m.
