The United States Men’s National Team is back in action tonight as the Yanks take on El Salvador in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals.

The U.S. got to this stage by winning Group B. Head Coach Bruce Arena still has yet to lose in his second tenure, after drawing to Panama and beating Martinique and Nicaragua. El Salvador went 1-1-1 and came in third place in its group, but still had enough points to qualify for the knockout round.

The Yanks are in complete control of the all-time series, going 16-1-5 against Los Cuscatlecos and 13-0-2 in games played in the States. In addition, the U.S. is currently on a 12-game winning steak against El Salvador, dating back 25 years.

While the Americans’ play has been underwhelming so far in the Gold Cup, Arena called in the cavalry to see out the remainder of the tournament. Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, and Tim Howard have a combined 486 caps and 110 international goals. Arena also called up Darlington Nagbe, who has become somewhat of a staple in recent months, playing every game this calendar year prior to the Gold Cup. The sixth player added to the roster is Jesse Gonzalez, who recently became eligible for the Yanks, after FIFA granted the one-time change of association request. Brad Guzan, Sean Johnson, Alejandro Bedoya, Cristian Roldan, Kelyn Rowe, and Dom Dwyer were all released from national team duty.

Orlando City fans will be familiar with El Salvador’s lone MLS player. Darwin Cerén captains Los Cuscatlecos and will look to lead his side to its second win in this year’s Gold Cup. That would be the first time the country has accomplished the feat.

Dempsey is the man to watch tonight. He is still just one goal shy of tying Landon Donovan’s all-time USMNT record. Additionally, Dempsey is five goals shy of Donovan’s Gold Cup record.

Justin Morrow and Joe Corona will need to be careful, if they even see the field. Both players are one caution away from suspension for the Yanks.

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be "that guy" who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It's OK to be critical, and, let's face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we'd rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.

Enjoy the match!
