Lion Links: 7/21/17

Good morning, Mane Landers! Tonight at 7 p.m., Orlando City will take on Atlanta United at home in what will be known as the first edition of the Southeastern rivalry. Cyle Larin won’t be available, but will be ready to play in next Saturday’s match-up with Atlanta United after Canada dropped out of the Gold Cup last night. Canada lost to Jamaica, 2-1 in the quarter finals of the tournament. I’m sure Giles Barnes will have much to say about that.

We’d also like to wish OCB Head Coach Anthony Pulis a very happy birthday. With that, let’s get to those links.

MLS to Institute Video Review

The league with the most parity, Major League Soccer, is now adding the most polarizing tool in soccer to its repertoire, video review. Hopefully it will help the league, but knowing the league, it’ll probably just bring even more controversy.

Alex Morgan and Ali Krieger Get USWNT Call-Up

Two of Orlando Pride’s stars, defender Ali Krieger and forward Alex Morgan, have been called up to the USWNT for the Tournament of Nations. While it is to be expected, it’s always great to see your team’s players get a chance on the international stage.

Albert Dikwa Makes USL 20 Under 20

OCB’s Albert Dikwa has come in at 11th on the USL 20 Under 20, which honors the best young players in the league…Interestingly enough, he came in ahead of Tommy Redding who plays mostly for the senior team.

USA Bewildered by Biting

It’s not every day that you see someone bite a player. Yet two days ago, two USMNT players were the victims of two El Salvadorian bites. Jozy Altidore and Omar Gonzalez were clearly confused and really just didn’t know what to do. It was as if El Salvador had watched a bunch of Luis Suarez highlights before the match.

“There’s a history of that in our sport, so … ,” Arena said, drawing laughs during his postgame press conference.

“You know, these games aren’t easy,” he added. “Clearly, I would think the referee doesn’t want to send anyone off. But it was a night where on a couple of occasions perhaps it would have got the game headed in the right direction. But I certainly didn’t see the play. Someone showed it to me afterwards. So I can’t fault the referee. Those things are not easy to see on the field.”

Orlando City Prospect Called to USYNT Camp

Orlando City forward Alejandro Pereira has been called up for a USYNT U-17 camp. The camp will be in preparation for this year’s U-17 World Cup.

That’s it for today’s links. Have a great Friday and check back with us later for full pregame and post-game coverage of Orlando City vs. Atlanta United!
