USA vs. Costa Rica, World Cup Qualifier: How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, Preview, Lineups, Match Thread, and More

It has been nine months since the United States Men’s National Team’s 4-0 World Cup qualifier loss to Costa Rica, but the result still haunts the Americans. The U.S. is in third place in the Hex, three points behind Los Ticos and six points behind undefeated Mexico. Costa Rica and the U.S. both need a win in this match to all but guarantee a spot in Russia.

The all-time series is tied 15-15-5 and the teams each have 13 points in the head-to-head series since 2011. Although the Yanks lost 4-0 in the last qualifier to Costa Rica, the Americans beat Los Ticos 2-0 in this year’s Gold Cup. Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey each scored in the final 20 minutes to book a place in the Gold Cup final.

Head Coach Bruce Arena called on veteran experience to help his side move up the table. All of the 26 players called up have national team experience in 2017 alone. This team also consists of 18 members of the 2017 Gold Cup champions.

Dempsey will look to move alone on top of the USMNT’s all-time scoring sheet. He is currently tied with Landon Donovan on 57 goals, but his 18 qualifier goals is the most in USMNT history, and his four goals against Los Ticos is also an American record.

Match Thread Rules

This is your live thread for posting comments on the match. So use our comments section below to talk about the game in real time with other supporters. If you're new, welcome to our happy home! While you're here, please observe a few basic rules:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be "that guy" who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It's OK to be critical, and, let's face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we'd rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.

Enjoy the match!
