Orlando Pride’s Camila Out for the Remainder of the 2017 Season

Orlando Pride midfielder/defender/forward/jack-of-all-trades Camila suffered an injury during Saturday’s 3-2 win over the North Carolina Courage during the 32nd minute and had to be stretchered off moments later. The club has now confirmed that she sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear, and a medial collateral ligament (MCL) sprain in her right knee. The injury will rule Camila out for the remainder of the 2017 season, and an indefinite amount of time following the season.

This is a blow to the Orlando Pride, as Camila was the link between the back line and attacking players like Alex Morgan and fellow Brazilian, Marta. She was also the primary backup at right back and could play on the wing on the forward line when needed. The 22-year-old was a threat to score from nearly any distance — she won NWSL Goal of the Week in Week 3 and Week 9 — and her absence will be a big obstacle for the Pride to overcome in their first-ever NWSL postseason run, which starts Saturday at Portland.

Camila played in 24 matches, starting in 22 of those, and scored four goals on the season for the Pride, with five assists. She tied for the team’s third-most goals during the regular season with Chioma Ubogagu and Alanna Kennedy, and was second in assists behind Marta’s six. She also trailed only Marta in shots taken (51). The Brazilian was signed during the off-season, after playing for Brazilian club Tiradentes last season and formerly being a member of the Houston Dash.

The Pride will play their first playoff match against the Portland Thorns in Providence Park this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET in a nationally televised game on Lifetime.
