Orlando City to Host D.C. United to Open 2018 MLS Season
Major League Soccer unveiled the opening home games for each club this afternoon, which spans the first three weeks of the season. The Lions will open their 2018 MLS campaign at Orlando City Stadium against D.C. United on Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
News of the scheduling was broken yesterday by Steven Goff of the Washington Post. This continues Orlando City’s streak of opening MLS calendars at home as it faced New York City FC at the Citrus Bowl in 2015, Real Salt Lake in 2016, and opened the new stadium last season with a home game against New York City FC.
The game will launch the 2018 season which will see an expansion team join the league for the second consecutive year. Last year, the league welcomed Atlanta United and Minnesota United, and this year will welcome Los Angeles FC. Despite the additional team, the season will still consist of 34 games with 17 being played at home, and 17 played away. The remainder of the schedule is expected to be released in early January.
