Lion Links: 2/5/18

Merry Monday morning, Mane Landers! You’d think that with everything that’s been going on with the organization, pulling together links for you would be easy. However, that is not the case. Evidently, there was another “football” game on Sunday night that dominated the airwaves, so I’ve done the best I can. Let’s see what happens.

Thoughts and Details From Jacksonville

With the preseason trip to Jacksonville finished, Orlando City’s roster is not only coming together on the field but off it. The trip allowed chemistry to build between members of a team filled with new faces and it’s interesting to hear some of their takes on what transpired in Jacksonville. There are some interesting details shared, including a trip taken by the team’s designated leaders (Joe Bendik, Will Johnson, Sacha Kljestan, Yoshimar Yotun, and Dom Dwyer) to a naval air station to speak with servicemen and servicewomen.

We’re Not the Only Ones Noticing the Moves

Those of us focused on Orlando City have been on a roller coaster the last few weeks. It’s like everything Orlando City hasn’t done the past few years is all being made up for in just a few weeks time. That said, we here at The Mane Land are quite happy, and the moves are getting noticed outside of Central Florida.

Danny Williams on the USMNT

It turns out not everyone is pleased with the World Cup qualifier results for the USMNT. Danny Williams captained the USMNT after the team failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, but he hasn’t really been featured. That being said, it’s a new day for the USMNT and Williams is one player you might see going forward. So it might be worth your while to see what he has to say.

The USSF Presidency

It turns out that the most important election this year might have nothing to do with the U.S. Congress. I’m joking of course, that will be much more important than who heads the USSF. That being said, for those of us that are U.S. Soccer supporters, it’s still a big deal. There are plenty of contenders, but who is going to come out on top is still up for grabs. That doesn’t mean we can’t learn a little about those running.

Free Kicks

  • Are you behind on all the off-season moves that the Pride have made? Well, here is your primer to keep you in the know.
  • Can’t decide which games to go to this season? Well Orlando City has you covered with the “Flex Pack.” Choose which five games you want to go to this season, and enjoy.
  • Over in Norway, the men’s team sacrificed some dough for some equality.
  • Holy Jeebus, we have some doozies for birthdays today. Neymar is 25, Cristiano Ronaldo (33), Bobby Brown (49), baseball legend Hank Aaron (84), Guns ‘N Roses bassist Duff McKagan (54), actor Michael Sheen (49), sportscaster Don Cherry (84), FSU Alumnus Kelvin Benjamin (27), and basketball player Terrence Ross (26).

That’s going to do it for this edition of Lion Links. Frankly, I finished this before the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl and I’m mostly just looking forward to the MLS season. Vamos Orlando!
