USA vs. Paraguay, International Friendly: How To Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, Preview, Match Thread, and More

It seems like yesterday that DeAndre Yedlin was making his United States Men’s National Team debut. But a lot has happened in the past four years and now the fullback is the most capped player on the current USMNT roster, with 49 international games under his belt.

All this change, of course, comes from the U.S. failing to qualify for the World Cup and now the nation is looking to its youth to move it forward. Interim Head Coach Dave Sarachan called up a 23-man roster with an average age of just 23 years. Of the 23 players called up, 18 have five or fewer caps and eight players can make their international debuts. This roster also has five players who are in the U.S. senior camp for the first time — Shaq Moore, Erik Palmer-Brown, Antonee Robinson, Tim Weah, and Andrija Novakovich. Additionally, 15 of the 20 field players could get their first goal for the U.S., while only Bobby Wood has scored multiple times, with just 10.

If you take away veterans Wood and Yedlin, then Paraguay’s Cristian Riveros would have 24 more caps under his belt than the entire American roster. However, La Albirroja also come in with a young team. Nine of the 21 players brought in have fewer than 10 caps and five players could make their international debuts, including both goalkeepers. The most notable name on the Paraguay roster is Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron.

Historically, the USMNT has the slight edge in the overall series, going 3-2-2. The last time these two countries faced each other was back in June of 2016 in the Copa America. Clint Dempsey scored the lone goal that put the Yanks through to the quarterfinals. Wood and Yedlin are the only two current USMNT participants who were in that game — Yedlin only lasted 48 minutes before getting ejected — and four players from Paraguay’s roster that day remain in the squad.
