Welcome to your match thread as the United States Men’s National team squares off against Hugo Lloris and the French National team in Lyon. This match, while just a friendly, has significance for both teams.

This is the final match of the summer for the Americans, and most likely the last game that interim head coach Dave Sarachan will be in charge of. This is also the last match for France before it takes on Australia in the World Cup, so it will be the last chance that Didier Deschamps has to prepare his squad before it travels to Russia.

France’s team is an experienced one, with all 23 players playing in Europe. The team is led by goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris, midfielder Paul Pogba, and forwards Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud, who have combined for 276 caps and 60 international goals.

On the flip side, the U.S. has an average age of just 23 years old and Deandre Yedlin is the most capped player with 51. The entire 24-man roster has just 205 total caps and 23 goals.

The Yanks have never beaten France, going 0-3-0 all-time and getting outscored, 10-0. However, they have improved every game, losing first 6-0 in 1979, then 3-0 five months later, and 1-0 back in 2011. Bill Hamid is the only player that was on that roster but he did not see the field.
